The goal during the summer season is to beat the heat. How can we do this in terms of what foods and drinks we consume. Aside from engaging in too much activities it is also important to watch out what type of food and drink we consume. Here are some tips to what foods and drinks keep us hydrated.

 

 

 

 

  • Avoid beverage/drinks that contain too much sugar plain water is a good choice. Water is good for rehydration because it is absorbed by the body faster. Squeeze a bit of lemon or other natural fruit juices and add a little bit of sugar to improve the taste. This also adds electrolytes to your body. Take in cool water when you experience body heat. This can also prevent heat stroke.
  • Avoid foods and drinks which are high in caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic which can give you the urge to urinate more.
  • The foods best for summer are fruits and vegetables high in moisture content. Examples of them are cucumber, watermelon, turnips etc. Anything that has water is a good source of hydration.
  • Avoid foods that is high in fat and sugar such as cakes, donuts etc.
